Benton Sherman (Editor)

I found Benton on one of the Nashville Film Facebook groups. He posted that he was recently transplanted from Colorado about two weeks prior and he was looking to get some editing work. I hate to ask people to work for free, but after reaching out and explaining the project, he said yes!

Benton arrived at just the right time. I was drowning in footage, not entirely sure where to find the story. He brought organization and clarity to the project and was able to script out our story into three discernable acts. It’s not always easy to entrust your baby to someone else’s care, but Benton was the right caretaker.

His professionalism and skill were a Godsend to me. He talked me down some cliffs but still “allowed” me to bring a bit of my quirkyness to the screen. He was a great sounding board and had a calm demeanor even when I made things more difficult for him.

Although he was in Downtown Nashville, we tried to use some remote tools through Davinci Resolve. We had all sorts of problems syncing our original files, so we finally gave up with the cloud and just shuttled hard drives across town. In the long run that was the best option. Note to self: Do not make major changes to a project flow mid-way through the project.

The final result was something both Benton and I were proud of. He told me that he never would have imagined he’d have a feature theater screening just a few months after moving to Nashville. I shed many joyful tears throught the edit and Benton cracked a bit toward the end when it all came together with the original composition.

Thank you, Benton Sherman. I am glad you said yes and I look forward to seeing more great things from you.
