On November 1, 2024 I got to meet the young lady who would become the fan favorite of the film. Sharon is Seth’s sister and she does not lack any personality. She was so much fun and was a great addition to the film.
I returned to the home of Seth Jr, so we had to change the composition for this shot as compared to the interview with Stephanie and Jonathan Goodwin.
Sharon loves to joke and play, but is also very sincere. I see a lot of myself in her. In fact, I think I said I would love to spend the holidays with them. As time went on on this project and interviewing the family I saw just how blessed a man Seth is. This isn’t to say that it is accident or luck. His blessings are being returned for being such a faithful man, husband and father.
Sharon brought the typical brother-sister dynamic to the screen. I wish we had more of her interview on the final edit, but what we did have were great and the audience responded from the first seconds of her on screen. She talked about how she would make light of Seth’s limitations during rehab, as any sister or sibling would. It was not from malice, but in playful poking fun to make light of a terrible situation.
I’m excited for him. I can’t wait to see his face. I’m gonna try to keep it a secret as long as I can. -snort-
Thankfully, the director and editor enacted swift justice by adding an iconic clip to the credits. Toward the end of the interview, she said she was so excited to see Seth’s reaction to the film. Then she snorted. I was really confused what was happening. It turns out she snort-laughs! It was so funny that I had to include it. At first she said no, but then realized it was too good to leave out so she conceded that I could use it. I would send early edits to Patricia (Seth’s wife) throughout so she also approved the snort-laugh.
The funniest thing that neither I or my co-editor thought of is that Sharon would be at the premiere watching herself. She started snorting in the theater and at first we thought there was someone making fun of her, but it was her laughing at herself. It was just what we needed to recover from a very emotional film.
We love you, Sharon and you are a great (Much Younger) sister!
